This 1 hour webinar is chaired by RCSI Hospital Group Clincial Director for Quality and Patient Safety, Professor Siobhan Gormally. As the healthcare system faces unprecedented challenges, there has never been a greater need for considerate, authentic, compassionate and effective leadership. Speaker Dr. Ciarán O’Boyle focuses on three key areas. The first area explores how to manage stress and build resilience. The second discusses the value and particular relevance of authentic leadership in healthcare. The third examines how to create a positive organisation so that the people who work there can flourish and thrive.
About the speaker
Dr. Ciarán O’Boyle is a Professor of Psychology at the RCSI with over 35 years’ experience as an educator, researcher and trainer. He is currently Director of the RCSI Centre for Positive Psychology and Health which he founded in 2019. He established the first Department of Psychology in an Irish Medical School in 1987 and led the team that established the RCSI’s Institute of Leadership in 2005, which he directed for 15 years. He established RCSI Dubai in 2007 and led it until 2019. Ciarán has been a Visiting Professor at Trinity College Dublin, a Vice Dean of the RCSI Faculty of Medicine and a member of the RCSI Senior Management Team. He is the National Educator for the RCSI Advanced Trauma and Life Support (ATLS) Programme and he has served as a Ministerial appointee on the Council of the Pharmaceutical Society of Ireland. He holds academic qualifications from UCD, the Milltown Institute of Theology and Philosophy and the University of Oxford and he has undertaken Harvard’s Leadership Programme for Senior Educators. He has published extensively, with over 100 scientific publications, in the fields of pharmacology and psychology. He lectures extensively in Ireland and internationally. He also has extensive experience as a consultant psychologist for a range of national and international public and private sector organisations in the military, aviation, financial services, education, government and healthcare sectors.
